I really miss those moments at the Military School with Cikgu Mansoor. The last I had was a 3-months long at BTC (British Torture Camp) while I was still a blue (Schlumberger). The difference is I do not miss that BTC training class so much even though I was with colleagues from all over the world for 3 months!!! I became so attached to being an SSS student and this memory will remain very vividly for the rest of my life.
Through the class, I got to know more about Brunei. Although born in Brunei, I have been outside the country since 14 years old. Having resided in Singapore, Melbourne, Bangkok and Derezor in Syria throughout these years, home is still the best place for me and so here I am, back in Brunei and wanting to start another chapter of my life anew here.
Because of the class, I got the opportunity to explore the various places in Bandar Seri Begawan. I used to be only familiar with the road from Seria to the International airport in Bandar because the only purpose of going to Bandar was to leave the country to somewhere. But now, I can proudly tell you where the various government offices are located, where to get good food (although not as pro as Sheren yet… lol!!!)
I actually find 2 weeks being too short for the intensive classes! Cikgu Mansoor was really one of a kind with his swearing and tennis balls throwing. At first during the night classes, I really felt agitated (sorry ah, Cikgu) but slowly I found myself accustomed to it and was totally amused by all these. I still remember vividly how Adrian laughed when he was being shouted “ninimu!!!!!!” by Cikgu. We kind of took it as a joke already. Cikgu, you got to think of a better swearing tactic in order to instill fear in ur next batch of SSS victims (hahhahahaha!!!!!!!!!)
Here, I would like to wish the Class of May 2009 the best of luck and no matter what, we are one big family and will always keep in touch.
My wife and myself work under a Major but it is nothing like this military school. He really makes us all sweat in the pants, even though the A/C was 17 degrees. He has made us better person and guide us through one of our memorable moments. And once again we thank him from the bottom of our heart.

To start off, nobody likes to be shouted at, esp when you pay to attend the class. As for me, that was it. Every penny I collected from my student bores a very huge responsibility for their future. Three weeks intensive done 9 am to 10 pm six times a week could be too short of a time to be able to help some student improve their Malay langguage writing skills. I’ve had help from qualified teachers from UBD, so far its furtile. They surrendered.
I’ve called names in class. I even called student/s ‘babi’ and ‘pukima’. I almost slap a male student for blowing his nose when another fellow student was having her packed lunch only a few feet away. And I kicked-out those ‘ke kiang’ students who thinks they know everything.
Before getting the ‘licence’ to run the school, I was unknowingly being observed by the Government spy who pretended to be a friend for 10 weeks. I believed, during that time, I did talk about ‘his’ useless siblings. To tell you the truth, no one will like it when I’m really angry.
I ever swore at HM’s sister, Princes Amal when we were both very young. I shouted at the Head of Special Branch in his well guarded office (and he shouted back at me… hehehe…) when I was a bit older, 1983. I shouted at Director of Agriculture until Mr. Perm. Sec. of MIPR chicken out to see me. And all was done for a reason.
I have declared myself as the most ‘kurang ajar’ person, infront of a high ranking KDN officer in his office at Mile 1 only a few years ago. My father was detained by our stupid system when I was only 14, the tender age of growing up and in need of good parenting. I never saw my father ‘out’ until 14 years later – after his last breath in 1988.
My father’s detention was supposed to be a death sentence for me. But, I’m a fighter. I simply refused to die.
So, I don’t mind with your confession. I knew, not everybody can stand MY WAY of doing things. I love to be misunderstood… Hehehe…
(I don’t ‘shout & swear’ so much in Class of May 2009 simply because of my confidence that 90% of YOU can excel in the Exam…). That is the truth…
Oh wow!! So many activities and outings! Cikgu, did you take these pictures with your DSLR?? haha.. or are these Jan’s skills? Cus if those aren’t, your photo-taking skills are not bad!! haha.. can be as good as Jan’s.. akekeke.. Looking at the group photo reminded me of the feeling I felt masa keluar dari exam hall. haha.

Some i took with my Nikon D90. Photography wise, me & Jan are not buddies. He is a CANON guy. We can’t even be near each other. I hate to see the ‘strap’ he is having, not sold here, in Brunei. I’m thinking of paying an Italian Mafia to take the strap from him, & change his camera to Nikon, just like mine. Hehehe… (got you…!!!)
You saw Jan’s pose at Billionth Barrel Monument walkway? There is nowhere he can take that pose himself especially when he is holding his very own CANON. Ya, I took that picture for him with my Nikon. He is my mentor mah… Mana boleh lawan towkey… đ
AND all those photos at SPA before & after the exam plus photos in I-Lotus Closing Ceremony are from my Nikon. Jan didn’t bring his camera along. He was damn nervous that day. He look like an eight years old waiting for his circumcision. In that situation, I don’t think that he can hold his camera without the strap hanging on his sweating neck. Hehehe…

OK, that red strap is COMING OFF but only after I find a replacement for it. I later found out from Vincent that the strap whilst not sold in Singapore is in fact sold here but that’s not the reason it’s coming off đ

True! Photographers hardly see pictures of themselves unless they spend unusual amount of time in front of the mirror. Good thing that picture was taken from a distance so the embassing soaked shirt from my profuse sweating isn’t obvious! đ

HAHAHAHA!! I see I see… patutlah…all shots are nice! The pictures look soft and not striking which is good!! haha I think the colour gradients and lightings are controlled differently in Nikon and Canon.. maybe Canon fits Jan more. hahaha.
Oh by the way Cikgu, in the papers today there’s this ceremony for citizenship – that’s not my batch one right? =/

The ceremony today includes 7 students from Class of November 2007. 24 more waiting for their turn, hopefully, before end of 2009. Some students from Class of June 2008 will be included, if not everybody… Be patient dear…

Me also a Nikon guy, got a D80, so does that mean we are buddy? So far I only use it on my two kids, got no time to venture out to test other shots, really want to learn photography but don know how. Other than AUTO mode, every photo doesn’t seems right. To have 10% of Jan’s skill is a dream comes true to me. (10% is a bit too greedy eh…) D90 can take HD video right? Is it good?
So far, I’m happy with my D90. Yes, it comes with HD video.
(But for your case, having camera of same type with me is far from enough to be my buddy, not unless you pass me the receipe of making your ROJAK paste. Hehehe…)
We planned to take sunsets shots at Marimbun this coming 23rd. So far only three of us, Jan, Husini (kantalensa) & mysely. Maybe Vincent Goh of CANON coming too. You come with the RECEIPE, I won’t charge your transportation charges. Hahaha…

I don’t know about Vincent but Husini suggested that Gavin (also a Goh but no relations except for the Canon 5D he uses) come along with us to Merimbun. Gavin is Husini’s colleage at work and an apprentice of mine after hours. Gavin is on.

Here’s what I see … SSS plays a role in promoting our domestic tourism campaignâKNK. No other school in my opinion comes close when it comes to students from Belait and Tutong district congregate in one classroom and in the entire time, we would explore eateries to eat for lunch and dinner. Three weeks intensive twice a year where attendance is compulsory (and absenteeism greatly discouraged without a good reason), I would say the class’ contribution to the food economy isn’t insignificant. Christy’s testimony reflects the experiences of the many out-of-town students day after day, night after night, week after week!

Hehehe… Your intensive was only two weeks (as indirectly suggested by the Govetnment), theirs this time was full three weeks, plus 3 weeks ‘early’ intensive, 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm (or later) Monday to Friday… They covered most of the topics halfway thru the full ntensive, so I have time to bring them to visit Old People’s Home and the Royal Regallia… Kalau dengki, you can always join me again on the next intensive class… Hehehe… Bring Soli along… Hahaha…
I forgot to tell you about the one night where we hung out @ Nasi Kandar till 12.30 AM and there was class the next day! I thought late nights rendezvous after class was usual enough until the next day when Cikgu revealed that 12.30 AM was a new record!
